Contest rules

  1. The DoingMyPart.Coop contest will run from August 12, 2010, at 00:01 (Eastern Daylight Time) until November 7, 2010, at 23:59 (Eastern Standard Time).

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
  1. To take part in the DoingMyPart.Coop contest, participants must make a video clip or write an essay illustrated by a photo(s) that explains how they are doing their part in their school, community, family or elsewhere and how this enables them to put into practice one or more of the cooperative values (democracy, equality, equity, solidarity, mutual aid). Participants must ensure that they meet the contest eligibility criteria.
  2. Each entry must be made by an individual. Group entries will not be accepted.
  3. Entry content may be in French (100%) or in English (100%).
  4. Participants must complete the official entry form, available on the contest web site at www.Jefaismapart.Coop/inscription (French) and www.Doingmypart.Coop/registration.php (English).
  5. To be eligible, the video clips and essays with photo(s), and the entry forms, must be completed and registered on the contest web site before November 7, 2010 at 23:59.
  6. The video clips, essays and entry forms become the property of DID and will not be returned to the participants.


ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS
  1. To be eligible to enter the DoingMyPart.Coop contest, participants must be between the age of 18 and 30 at the time of registration, and be Canadian citizens, residing in Canada, and members of a cooperative. 9.     1. Produce a video clip lasting between one (1) and two (2) minutes, without exceeding two (2) minutes.
    2. Record the video clip in a file that respects the following parameters:
      Format: MPEG4
      Resolution: 640 × 480
      Audio quality: 128 kbps
      Maximum size: 100 M
    3. Upload the video clip to the contest web site using the link provided in the entry form.
    4. Send a copy of the video clip on a CD to the following address:

    5. Have a copy of the release form signed by each individual appearing in the video clip and send it to concours@did.qc.ca before November 7, 2010 at 23:59. The form must also be completed by any participating musicians. The release form can be requested by telephone from the person in charge of the contest at DID at (418) 835-2401, extension 5796. The completed form can be sent by fax to (418) 833-0742.
    6. The video clip may be produced entirely in French or entirely in English.
  3. Each participant who chooses to submit an essay with photo(s) must respect the following conditions:
    1. Write an essay of between 300 and 450 words, without exceeding 450 words (as counted by the word counter integrated into the entry form on the contest web site).
    2. Paste your text into the space provided on the contest web site (in the entry form).
    3. Paste your photo(s) into the space provided on the contest web site (in the entry form). 
    4. The essay may be written entirely in French or entirely in English.
  4. The quality of the video clips and photos is not an evaluation criteria of major importance. Although a minimum quality is required in order to ensure that the message is understood, participants are not required to present a professional quality video clip or photo(s).
  5. Participants who submit a video clip to this contest declare and guarantee that they own all rights that they are ceding, and that it is an original work and free from any claim. This includes rights related to works by third parties and performer’s rights. Participants also declare and guarantee that the video clip does not infringe on the rights of any third party, in particular the right of privacy and right of publicity, and does not contain any libelous elements.
  6. By entering this contest, the participant grants DID an exclusive licence authorizing DID to make the video clip or essay with photo(s) available to the public on the contest web site from December 8, 2010 to January 9, 2011. This will make it possible for the general public to vote for the works posted.
  7. If the participant wins a prize as part of this contest, the participant authorizes DID to use the work submitted (video clip or essay with photo) on a non-exclusive basis along with their name, initials, photograph, visual representation, text, statements, biographical information, voice, and indication of city and province of residence worldwide, indefinitely and in all forms of media, currently known, or developed in the future, without additional authorization and free of charge.
  8. DID reserves the right to refuse any video clip or essay with photo(s) that it deems unacceptable or offensive, or that does not respect the theme of this contest or the technical parameters, or who’s content is false or grossly inexact.
  9. An individual may submit only one entry to this contest.
  10. No purchase is required.

EVALUATION CRITERIA
  1. Between November 15 and November 30 of 2010, a jury will view and evaluate each of the eligible video clips. The jury will be composed of representatives from DID and the contest partners. The jury will make a preselection of the five (5) best video clips and the five (5) best essays with photo(s).
  2. The members of the jury will evaluate each video clip and each essay with photo(s) based on the four (4) following criteria:
    1. Relevance to the contest theme (15%)
    2. Pertinence of the subject and clarity of the message (60%). The participant clearly presents:
      • the cause or the organization or the project or the individuals with which they are collaborating (15%)
      • the nature of their involvement or contribution to this cause, organization or project (15%)
      • how their involvement is tied to cooperative values: democracy, equality, equity, solidarity, mutual aid (15%)
      • their personal motivation for their involvement, etc.) (15%)
    3. Respect for eligibility conditions (10%): the participant respects the format parameters for the video clip or essay with photo(s) (see Articles 9 and 10 in the contest rules).
    4. Quality of language (15%): vocabulary and syntax in all presentations; pronunciation in video clips and spelling in essays

ATTRIBUTION OF PRIZES
  1. The 10 individuals selected by the jury will automatically be designated as contest finalists. Between November 28 and December 3, 2010, DID will communicate with each of these 10 finalists using the contact information provided in the registration form. Each of the 10 finalists must reply to DID by December 3, 2010 at 5 p.m. at the latest (Eastern Standard Time) to confirm that they have been informed that they have been selected as finalists and that their video clip, or essay with photo(s), will be posted on the contest web site for the vote by the general public. This communication will also enable DID to inform each of the 10 finalists of the prizes they have won and the procedure for claiming them.
  2. DID reserves the right to remove a finalist from the list of 10 finalists if this individual does not reply to DID by December 3, 2010.
  3. Between December 8, 2010 and January 9, 2011, the video clips and essays with photo(s) of the 10 finalists will be posted on the contest web site (www.Jefaismapart.Coop and www.Doingmypart.Coop) to enable the general public to vote for the two grand prize winners.
  4. Between December 8, 2010 and January 9, 2011, the general public will be invited to vote on the contest web site for their favourite video clip and their favourite essay with photo(s). Voters must identify themselves by providing their email address. Only one vote (for a video clip and for an essay with photo) may be made from an email address.
  5. The two grand prize winners will be designated at the conclusion of a democratic procedure, the vote by the general public. The participant whose video clip receives the most votes and the participant whose essay with photo(s) receives the most votes will be named the two grand prize winners.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PRIZES
  1. The 10 finalists will win a selection of gifts offered by DID and the contest partners. The prizes are: a book about microfinance, a travel book about Vietnam, a Coopsco gift certificate valued at $50 offered by the FQCMS and a water bottle with the DID logo. The prizes offered have a total value of approximately $125 per person.
  2. The two grand prize winners of this contest will each also win the grand prize consisting of an international development educational tour lasting a maximum of 10 days in Vietnam. The prize includes the flight, lodging, transfers, visas, three meals per day, the cost of cancellation insurance, taxes and the services of the resource persons who will welcome each of the two winners in Vietnam. The total value of the two tours is CAN $15,000 (all taxes paid). Each of the two winners will assume costs related to obtaining a passport, health insurance and any other personal expenses (ex: vaccines).
  3. The country of destination for the awareness tour and the promotional items that are the secondary prizes are at the discretion of DID or, where applicable, its partners, and are subject to change.
  4. The names of the 10 finalists, and their video clips or essays with photo(s), will be posted on the contest web site during International Development Week (February 6 to 12, 2011). The essays may also be used in various media promoting the contest winners.

OTHER CONDITIONS
  1. No correspondence will be entered into with contestants other than that mentioned in Article 20.
  2. With regard to the international development and education tours, no transfer, exchange, or partial or full monetary compensation will be allowed. The tours shall be made within the year following the awarding of the prizes, in function of the availability of the winners and host partners. Any default in undertaking the tour within the prescribed time limit shall free DID and its partners from any responsibility or obligation in relation to a winner.
  3. In the case of prizes provided by the contest partners, no transfer, exchange, or partial or full monetary compensation will be allowed.
  4. Contest organizers reserve the right to withdraw any contest entry deemed not to comply with eligibility requirements.
  5. Winners shall release DID and its partners of all responsibility as to loss or damages of any nature whatsoever that could occur during the awarding, acceptance and/or use of their prizes.
  6. If the contest organizers are unable to award a prize in accordance with the rules, for any reason beyond their control and unrelated to the winner, they shall agree to award a prize of a similar nature and of equal or higher value.
  7. This contest is open to all Canadian citizens aged 18 to 30, residing in Canada, and member of a cooperative, excluding all administrators and employees of DID, CIDA and the FQCMS, and members of their immediate families through blood relationship, marriage or adoption and all persons living in the same household with such administrators or employees. To be eligible, contestants must be at least 18 years of age and no older than 30 at the time of entering the contest.
  8. All video clips and essays with photo(s) submitted to the contest, and any documents submitted with them, become the property of DID which may use them at its discretion.
  9. DID may use for promotional purposes, at its discretion and without compensation, all information submitted for identifying the winners such as photographs, their image, spoken remarks, place of residence or statements made by them when prizes are awarded.
  10. By entering this contest, contestants agree to these contest rules. All decisions made by representatives of DID, or where applicable its partners, with respect to this contest shall be final and without appeal.
  11. Any false statement or refusal to meet the requirements of the contest by a contestant shall automatically result in disqualification from the contest.
  12. The winners of previous editions of the DID DoingMyPart.Coop contest are not eligible for the prizes offered in this year’s contest.
  13. For the purposes of these rules, a contestant shall be the person whose name is given when registering. This contest is governed exclusively by Canadian law regardless of any conflict in jurisdiction. By entering the contest, each contestant fully and irrevocably acknowledges the jurisdiction of courts in Quebec, Canada. This contest shall be considered null and void where prohibited by law or where the law sets additional or conditions other than those prescribed in these contest rules and it is incumbent on each contestant to make all necessary efforts to meet the applicable eligibility requirements for the contest.
